I prefer to have any extra cash invested. We do have other options for emergencies like credit cards, Roth IRA principle, etc. While we obviously don't want to tap into those things, we could if there was an emergency. One thing I've noticed, though, is that you don't have much cash in savings (i.e. if you had shell out a couple thousand for a car payment on Monday).
